6 Dimensions of Negotiation ⬡
If you’re dealing with negotiations at any level (person-to-person, team-to-team, organization-to-organization, or any mix of two entities negotiating towards an agreement and a way forward), you might find the 6 Dimensions of Negotiation useful.
We’ve created it for helping you prepare a negotiation, unblock a difficult negotiation or get better results for all parties involved in a negotiation.
In our experience, negotiations and agreements have started gaining increased importance especially with a wider variety of professional pathways (for individuals), a wider variety of stakeholders (for teams) and a wider variety of roles that can be played in business ecosystems (for organizations).
For reference, we’ve created a detailed version of the 6D of Negotiation, that covers:
Intention: 4 categories of purposes for getting in a negotiation
Focus: 5 types of positioning in a negotiation
Time: 6 moments that characterize most negotiations
Desired Results: Multiple examples of elements of value (e.g. 7 relevant factors for the How of Collaboration, 8 forms of capital connected to the What of Collaboration)
Options: 9 elements linked to what’s on the “negotiation table” (Combos of value & Alternatives)
Plays: 3 elements linked to Communication during a Negotiation, 6 types of Power that the negotiating parties might have and 6 negotiation Tactics.

4️⃣_Lifecycle of Organizations
We’ve recently created this visualization of the lifecycle of an organization, inspired by Adam Thompson and Ichak Adizes. Just a preview for now, will deep dive into it in one of the next newsletter editions.
Mini case study: OD Snapshot
A preparatory project that we’ve started offering to our client organizations is a mix of
±10 individual talks with people that are representing the variety inside the organization - focused on exploring what's working & what's not working when it comes to various facets of the organization;
Creating a visual Executive Summary by synthesizing notes anonymously, identifying specific patterns & links and highlighting visually clusters of relevant areas.
Here’s an anonymized example of such a visual summary:
It’s a snapshot of a growing organization (200+ employees at the moment of the project) needing to organize better for implementing an ambitious business strategy.
150+ interconnected topics mentioned during the 10 1:1 talks (mix of aspects that work well & that need work);
Expert OD recommendations based on this complex snapshot of the organization (e.g. what would be some high-leverage endeavors for this organization);
Informing smart OD work to evolve the organization (optimizing further investments, minimizing risks to work on low-impact strategic & organizational programs).
This kind of preparatory project builds understanding, confidence and invites dialogue about the next natural steps for the organization.
