Dear readers,
Thank you all for your kind words about the in-depth explainer about Hybrid Work and for all those of you who already reserved a seat for the Hybrid Work Masterclass on March 3rd (7 seats left).
This week, we’ve also enjoyed the conversations with the participants of the webinar we co-hosted with the PTHR team in UK - here’s a visual summary of the talks (using the Links Model as a canvas):
Here’s the 6D of Hybrid Work model, created based on our evolving experiences and understanding of Hybrid Work setups:
Besides the Hybrid Work explorations and our current Strategy & Org Design advisory projects, we’ve further refined the purpose of ForBetterOrgs.com:
Inspiring and equipping leaders like you to build better organizations better.
Everything that we’re creating is for different roles in your professional life:
You as the change maker;
You as the learner;
You as the team player;
You as the decision maker;
You as the strategist;
and other value-creating roles that you choose to play.
Hope that this resonates and thank you for your continued support!

Strategy & Organization Goodies
1/ Strategy: INSEAD has introduced a neat tool for mapping the evolution of specific business ecosystems using Grab as a case study - Southeast Asia’s largest ride-hailing and delivery company.
Comes to complement their Ecosystem Canvas (both can be downloaded for free).
2/ Org Design: Stelio Verzera is hosting a new edition of the Adaptive Organization Design series, starting on March 17th.
Stelio is one of the most inspiring practitioners in the Org Design space and the “Adaptive Organization in Practice” series has been one of the most illuminating learning experiences ever. We’ve enjoyed it so much that we will join this new edition as well. Hope to see you there!
3/ Org Design: Paul Tolchinsky and Bülent are co-hosting the next EODF Book Club session about Networked, Scaled and Agile: A Design Strategy for Complex Organizations. Co-author Amy Kates will join the talks - an excellent opportunity to discuss live with experienced Org Design leaders.
4/ OD and Learning & Development: A bit of inspiration from the education field that shares what is likely to be beneficial for learning & development, based on evidence from multiples studies and research.
Each type of intervention is detailed in terms of:
What it is,
Key findings,
The effectiveness of the approach,
Behind the average and closing the disadvantage gap,
How could you implement in your setting,
What it costs,
What impact can you expect from it and how secure is the evidence.
Interesting to see:
Feedback and Metacognition approaches are among the most impactful (+6, +7);
A similar toolkit with other types of interventions (not only for L&D purposes) would be of great practical use in organizations. Have you come across something like this? (if so, drop us a message by replying to this e-mail).
Interconnections
Picks from disciplines (vaguely?) connected to Strategy, Org Design & OD
1/ Learning: Two picks that inspired us recently - people-driven learning and neo-generalists.
With its people-driven approach to information discovery, online learning will inspire a generation of polymathic thinkers. A kingdom of epiphanies is waiting for intellectual ambassadors who can connect the dots across disciplines.
2/ Chemistry: Did you know that two types of liquid water have been discovered? Science is awesome & there's so much that we don't know that we don't know.
Related mind-blowing discovery: “Near absolute zero, some weird things start to happen. For example, light becomes a liquid that can literally be poured into a container, according to research published in 2017 in the journal Nature Physics.”
If we’re still discovering this kind of things about water and light, imagine how little we know about the life of organizations.
3/ Ski: Beautiful example of how a system changes without anyone centrally “leading the change”: Why ski jumpers hold their skis in a V (6 min video).
4/ Biology: Wonderful explainer about Natural Selection: Essential Concepts and Common Misconceptions.
Natural selection is one of the central mechanisms of evolutionary change and is the process responsible for the evolution of adaptive features. Without a working knowledge of natural selection, it is impossible to understand how or why living things have come to exhibit their diversity and complexity.
(…) Unfortunately, studies indicate that natural selection is generally very poorly understood, even among many individuals with postsecondary biological education.
